A Word from the President: Jane Maynard

Dear Friends:Jane Maynard

It is a privilege for me to serve as the CADO President for 2011-2012. I have chosen to serve on the CADO Board because I am committed to the growth and development of clergy.

Before I moved to this Diocese in 2004, I served as Professor of Pastoral Theology and Director of Field Education at CDSP. In this role, I worked with seminarians, helping them to discern their gifts and to prepare for ordination. In many ways, my work with CADO is an extension of this experience.

My hopes for CADO include my desire that we will find new and creative ways to live into our four core commitments: collegiality, wholeness, formation, and advocacy.

Currently, I serve as Rector of Christ Church in Tacoma. My husband, Jim, is a software salesman at Intel and we have three grown children: Marc, Dan and Beckie. I look forward to seeing you around the Diocese and give thanks for your support.

In peace,
Jane

Insurance Parity Meetings June 27 and 28

Meetings to explain the new insurance parity requirements will be held June 27 and June 28:

Monday, June 27, 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM – Trinity, Everett – Clergy and Lay
Monday, June 27, 2:30 AM – 5:00 PM – St. Margaret’s, Bellevue – Lay only
Tuesday, June 28, 8:30 AM – 11:00 AM – St. Andrew’s, Tacoma – Clergy only
Tuesday, June 28, 2:30 PM – 5:00 PM – St. Stephen’s, Longview – Clergy and Lay

Employees of either the diocese or a congregation who work 30 hours a week or more are requested to attend. General Convention passed a resolution mandating parity between clergy and lay medical insurance coverage. The Church Pension Fund’s website offers detailed information about this resolution: http://www.cpg.org/productsservices/dhp_approved.cfm.

Garth Howe, a representative of the Medical Trust, will be at all the meetings to answer any questions and share his expertise. The resolution is broad and leaves the specifics of eligible employees and what is mandated as the minimum coverage to each diocese (with each congregation able to offer more than the minimum). The diocesan personnel commission will present a resolution this fall at our own Diocesan Convention to decide these issues. The commission feels it is important to both answer questions and, more importantly, to hear your ideas about the specifics of the resolution it will submit to convention this fall for implementation January 2013.

Please respond A.S.A.P. to Heather Kmitta by phone (206-325-4200/800-488-4978) or e-mail.
