Herbert O'Driscoll Preaching Seminar

Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 ~ 9:30am-3pm
St. Andrew’s Church, 111 NE 80th Street, Seattle

Year C: Mining for Gold in Luke
With Herbert O’Driscoll

Continuing to guide and inspire clergy and others with a preaching ministry, Herbert O’Driscoll will follow up his fall presentation with more exploration of the Year C lections. He will look at the preaching possibilities in Luke’s gospel and go beyond the Year C gospel to explore often-overlooked possibilities in the other readings.

"It’s ironic," says O’Driscoll, "that we're a generation of preachers who have been given back two things by the Three Year Eucharistic Lectionary. First we got back the Old Testament - or the Hebrew Scriptures - and secondly we've seen the return into Western culture of the power of Story; yet we still tend to preach most often on the Gospel passage alone."

"I'd like to explore other possibilities that can free us from being prisoners of the lectionary without neglecting or betraying it. We won't have enough time to do everything we would like, but when you come to think of it, that's the story of our lives!"

Registration fee, including lunch, $40 by January 24; $50 after.
Register before January 24 by mailing your check to
The Center at St. Andrew’s, 111 NE 80th Street, Seattle, WA 98115.

The Rev. Herbert O'Driscoll is one of the leading preachers and teachers in the Anglican Communion today. He has served as the Dean of Christ Church Cathedral in Vancouver, B.C. and as Warden of the College of Preachers in Washington D.C. The dozens of books he has authored make both scripture and the Anglican tradition come alive. He is especially interested in how classical Christian traditions such as Celtic, Benedictine and Franciscan spirituality are being rediscovered and are informing our contemporary spiritual journey.
